Going beyond Monitoring. API for Hall of Fame!

This post here is looking for website owners or webmasters that need to control or monitor webpages for SideWiki comments.

http://www.webproworld.com/web-programming-discussion-forum/92857-sidewiki-comment-monitor-api.html

Now I've been setting up a new API to vote for your favorite SideWiki comment from any site in the world.

Feel free to browse on over and give it a try.
The Hall of Fame and Hall of Shame are set in Beta at this time but after a few hundred votes and posts I'll be letting it go on a wider scale.

You can also view the sites being monitored from this page or at least find a link to the RSS feed. http://www.xtremecomputer.com/addnew10.asp
SideWiki is really cool if you ask me. Maybe it's because I don't mind public comments on the sides of my pages.

SideWiki Hall of Fame and Shame.

Helpful information about "http://www.xtremecomputer.com/forum/topic.asp?TOPIC_ID=240".

When you get into SideWiki you really can start seeing positive ways of using the information to get the word out.
Google has the vote Yes or No if the information was helpful which is good.

But if I remember Internet Users like to see from time to time really Great Comments and Really Bad Comments.

If you would like to vote for Hall of Fame comments visit the forum post linked above to read what you need to do. It's simple to do.

The SideWiki API development continues and if you see any errors or have suggestions feel free to leave me a SideWiki or Send a Suggestion.

So much for Tracking UserAgent for SideWiki.

Helpful information about "http://www.xtremecomputer.com/forum/topic.asp?topic_id=234".

For those that don't want people tracking them by their Google Toolbar.
>Start > Run > RegEdit
Search for GTB6
Delete the Entry
(It will be in this section HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Internet Settings\User Agent)
Or you can be creative and change the GTB6 to 1234, your name, initials whatever your heart desires.

SideWiki has very poor eyesight.

I don't know if everyone is seeing the same thing but Googles SideWiki seems to have very poor EyeSight.

When you visit a forum page that has SideWiki comments in it directly you can see them just fine.
But when you visit a forum link via the main page the same SideWiki Comments are not displayed.
I tested this on the topic Edit, Delete, SideWiki Comments, Blogs, Twitter and had the same results.

From internal links to internal pages the comments do not always show.
Direct input to your address bar in your browser seems to always display correctly.
Links from blogs and twitter also seem to work first time.

Is it the Google API that isn't clearing?
Only Sir Google can answer that question.
For now just keep testing to find the limits and the features you can work with.

Track SideWiki Comments by UserAgent?

Helpful information about "http://www.xtremecomputer.com/forum/topic.asp?TOPIC_ID=234".

I'm sure by now you have read articles and posts about people using the UserAgent GTB6 to track where "Might Be" a SideWiki comment.

Hundreds have tested this and some are still convienced this is the best method.

Actually you are wrong if you think you are going to be able to track SideWiki comments via the GTB6 in the UserAgent.

At best you can create a session log that emails you a bunch of pages you need to manually check.

But that's not the real pit falls to using a UserAgent tracking system.
The Biggest issue you should think about is WHO is going to be posting Spam and Who is going to be posting comments.

If I was a spammer I'd do the following:
>Start > Run > RegEdit
Search for GTB6
Delete the Entry
(It will be in this section HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Internet Settings\User Agent)

You'll see the GTB6 in the registry.

Once you delete the registry entry sites that monitor by UserAgent will no longer see you as a Google SideWiki Toolbar user.

But you will have all the features of the Toolbar just not the tracking part in your browsers useragent.

Try it out, feel free to post your SideWiki Test Comments here.

Be sure to edit your blogs if you edit your SideWiki and linked it to your favorite blog.

I don't believe that SideWiki will update your linked blog so if you make changes be sure to update your blog as well.

Search Engine Bots to track your SideWiki by Google Comments

It seems to all be falling in place now that the Shock of "Something New" is over.

For those that are really not finding SideWiki (even if the Wiki should have been Comments) take a look at what you can do with it all before you start looking to block it all or make the pages not visible with code Hash or some other method.

It's new, so give it a try. I know I resisted but found ways of making it work for me.
